SOUTHAMPTON'S FRIENDLIEST RUNNING CLUB

    ..Training Schedule

Our Club Coach, Rob Kelly is a Qualified England Athletic Coach (Level 2) and leads our training session twice a week. Rob is ably assisted by Patrick Joseph on a regular basis.

Monday night training
We meet at Southampton Common (on the triangle opposite the Bellmoor Pub) at 6.15 for a 6.30 start. The group is usually split into three sub-groups to allow for different paces. This means that the slower group will still suit beginners coming along for the first time, and the faster group are pretty much ready to join us at the Tuesday night session. Rob plans to keep the beginners group going, so if you know anyone who might be interested, please encourage them to attend.

Tuesday night training
We meet at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start at The Oasis Academy, Fairisle Road, Lordshill in the winter months and the Sports Centre, Southampton when the lighter evenings become available (usually near the time of the London Marathon in April).
This session is our speed/endurance training session and can range from sprint workouts through time paced sessions to arduous hill work.

Thursday night training
We meet at 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start at The Oasis Academy, Fairisle Road, Lordshill and on a regular basis we meet at a location in the New Forest for our famous Night Runs - using head torches and the pathways within the enclosures.
This session is normally classed as our "social run", and we run as a group to encourage all paces.

Our training is ultimately aimed at improving our fitness and we encourage our members to enter the local race leagues.

Local race leagues
The Hampshire Road Race League (HRRL) - is an annual series of road races for all runners from participating clubs in the County of Hampshire, on the central south coast of England.

RR10 series - organised by running clubs in south-west Hampshire for their members. The races are held on Wednesday evenings during the spring and summer and entry is free. The races are 4-5 miles off-road and the standard varies from 5-minute milers to 12+ minute milers so, however fast you are, there will always be someone to run with.

CC6 - organised by the running clubs of south Hampshire for their members. Held in the winter, these local races are free to enter and take place once a month on Sunday mornings, between November and March. Distances are between 4 and 5 miles and have similar locations to those in the RR10.
