Orienteering

Sunday January 7th 2007. Orienteering Anderwood New Forest.

Anderwood is about a mile along the Burley Road after it leaves the A35 and this is where the gang of four led by our chairman Derek Goodchild made for,  to have a go at a real orienteering event. Organised by the Southampton Orienteering Club,  who had opened the event to non club members to encourage new participants.  They certainly know how to put on a mornings activities with plenty of advice for beginners and well constructed routes from a string course for children to the longer course for the experts.  We chose a distance in the middle and found it, with the help of the very good map provided, an interesting challenge.  If you are looking for some light exercise that could involve the whole family this is for you.  But don’t forget to take a compass as within the trees of the New Forest it is essential.
