About Us

  • Lordshill Road Runners was formed in 1982 to promote roadrunning in Southampton, England;
  • We meet every Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6.30pm at Oaklands Community Centre, Fairisle Road, Southampton.
  • In Winter(October to March) alternate between hill running around Lordshill plus sprints in Sainsburys' Car Park and longer efforts ( a mix of 500m, 1000m and 1500m efforts with 500m recovery) on the Nursling Trading Estate. If you want to go straight to Nursling, the Oaklands group tend to arrive at Nursling, Britannia Way at 6.55 p.m.
  • In Summer, Tuesday evening training takes place in Southampton Sports Centre and comprises a mix of warm-ups, sprints, hills and exercises. If you want to go to direct to the Sports Centre, the Oaklands group tend to arrive at the Coxford Road entrance about 6.55pm.
  • Thursday training sessions are usually longer runs - 6 to 12 miles - on a variety of interesting (and not so interesting) routes round the streets of north west Southampton. There are few roads in the Lordshill, Basset, Shirley, Highfield, Millbrook, Redbridge and Totton areas that haven't seen a Lordshill running shoe at some time in the last 15 years.
  • At weekends club members tend to arrange a variety of training sessions among themselves, if not already committed to local or more distant races. Weekend runs can extend to 20 miles, particularly when club members are building up towards marathons. These runs explore well beyond the confines of Southampton. Enjoy the delights of the Forest, Fritham, Green Lane, Romsey, Test Way etc etc.
  • The training sessions cater for all abilities. More than one group will go out when there are mixed abilities.
