Although running is at the core of Lordshill Road Runners, many of our members wish to get more out of the club than just running, so we have a very lively social side.
Following most races, members tend to get together for a meal and refreshments at a local pub to discuss races and catch up with their clubmates.
We can be found every Saturday morning at Southampton parkrun (either running or marshalling), and then at the Hawthorns Café afterwards. Look out for the sea of blue LRR hoodies! You will also find LRRs at Eastleigh parkrun and Netley Abbey parkrun, but Southampton parkrun is our ‘home’ parkrun.
We hold a number of family friendly social events each year, such as barbecues, forest walks, picnics, bike rides, skittles evenings, and quiz nights.
More formal events are also organised during the year when we can forsake our running shoes and shorts, put on our party clothes and celebrate our successes and achievements. The Club awards evening (‘The Billy Bash’) is held in the New Year and is the social highlight of the calendar, with a dinner and disco, and the presentation of the Club awards.
We have an annual club championship competition, held within local races, with awards in various age categories as well as overall men’s and women’s champions, and the opportunity for many members to win prizes. The 10km race is an Age Graded competition, for the member with the highest age graded result. (Age grading is a way of putting all race participants on a level playing field, regardless of age or gender. Age graded scores let you compare your race times to those of different runners, as well as to the standard for your age and gender.)
If there are any social events that you would like the club to organise or if you would like to help organise an event, then please send your comments to the current Social Secretary or speak with any of the committee members.
We are a very social group… we like social media. We have a lively Facebook page and also use Walk Jog Run to share run routes: http://www.walkjogrun.net/groups/Lordshill-Runners
We also share our training sessions with each other on Garmin Connect: http://connect.garmin.com/group/7264
